The Pingsider documentary series explores the lesser-seen side of table tennis - stories, processes, and contexts that typically sit outside mainstream coverage. The films focus on how equipment is made, how athletes train, how the sport has been used in development contexts, and how historical moments around table tennis have unfolded behind the scenes.
I conceived and produced the full series, working with freelance videographers where additional camera support was required. I was responsible for the editorial direction of all films and completed the editing, animation, and post-production for each project from start to finish.
Productions took place across multiple countries, including Nepal, Japan, Guinea-Bissau, Romania, and China.
Mission 226
Created to mark the inauguration of the national table tennis association in Guinea-Bissau - the final country worldwide to establish one - this documentary follows the early development of the sport locally.
The film documents how the International Table Tennis Federation supported local sports students in building a table tennis curriculum, learning how to run an association, and training future coaches as part of a long-term development programme.
How Table Tennis Balls Are Made
Filmed on location inside a manufacturing facility in China, this documentary breaks down the full production process of professional table tennis balls.
The film is structured as a clear, step-by-step visual explanation, allowing a largely unseen manufacturing workflow to unfold without narration or embellishment.
United Korea (2018)
At the 2018 World Team Table Tennis Championships, the teams of North and South Korea made the unprecedented decision to unite mid-tournament rather than compete against each other, creating a new chapter in modern ping pong diplomacy.
The documentary follows the decision-making process, the matches themselves, and interviews with key stakeholders. The story continues throughout the year, culminating in the North–South Korean mixed doubles pair reaching the final of the World Tour Grand Finals.
