As part of World Table Tennis’ ambition to redefine the look and feel of global table tennis, I was responsible for the creative redesign of the competition arena across key international events. Especially with the launch of the WTT Grand Smash events, the existing court design no longer met the visual, broadcast, and entertainment requirements of the new format.
For Singapore Smash 2022, I designed the first iteration of what became known as the Infinity Arena - a new arena concept that combined bold visual identity with practical production needs. The design was developed to work equally well for live audiences, broadcast, and future sportainment-driven formats, while remaining adaptable across venues and event scales.
The project evolved through multiple design phases, from early experimental 3D concepts to fully realised production builds, and continued to develop over time as the arena was refined, adapted, and rolled out across different events worldwide.
Concept Development
Early 3D explorations tested form, scale, and visual impact ahead of production constraints, alongside LED layouts, screen inventory, and content placement. These concepts were then validated during a real-life test event in Macau, testing both design and playout systems in a live environment.
First Production Build
The first realised Infinity Arena was officially launched at Singapore Smash 2022, developed in collaboration with the Events Operations team and deployed for the first time in full official competition. In addition to the arena design, all animation content for the LED screens was designed and delivered by me.
Live Implementation & Evolution
Adapted across venues and events, the arena evolved through real-world use, broadcast feedback, and production learnings. Colour schemes were used to differentiate key events and event tiers while maintaining a consistent visual identity.
